Stamp duty on a Malaysian tenancy agreement is calculated at RM1 per RM250 of annual rent exceeding RM2,400 for tenancies under 1 year, RM3 per RM250 for 1 3 year tenancies, and RM5 per RM250 for tenancies over 3 years. The landlord and tenant typically share this cost equally. Payment is made via MyStamp on the LHDN website within 30 days of signing. Failure to stamp a tenancy agreement means it cannot be used as evidence in court.
